USING DIES TO ADD DETAIL | Morag Cutts
Die cuts are a superb way to add detailed elements to a scrapbook layout. With the Bramble Fox dies, you can create custom elements in whatever colours and patterns to suit your design. And the best news is, you can use them again and again!
This month, we have introduced 3 new versatile die sets. Inspired by my some of my favourite things - photographic film and the office. The border die sets have 4 individual designs and are long (20cm/8in). Like all our dies, they'll cut through your cardstock like butter, including that intricate detail.
During Monday's live scrapbook session with Melanie, I pulled out bits and pieces from several collections (like a bubble and squeak dish). The border dies help to give my page structure so I can add those details and keep everything under control!
Firstly, I stencilled filmstrips onto the background (which I subsequently covered up) using Stencil #93 from April's Fox Box Plus.
Mounting the photos onto yellow paper, added a much needed pop of colour. The black filmstrip detail below is one of the borders from Die set #20. I love the distressed style of this die.
A matching postage stamp border is at the top of the page. The yellow border is Office Border Dies #21. Notice also the View Master reel (#17) which I used to anchor other elements to the top of the page.
Adding little tags and tag tops is definitely a favourite! The very cool photo tab shown above can be layered with a colour to suit your project. The torn office edge detail of this and the tag top in yellow are perfect to add a little journaling detail.
Also in the Office Elements die set #22 are 2 circles which you may wonder what are they for? My idea is that you can create the paper fastener closures by securing them to your page with a brad or eyelet. I made a faux envelope for this project and added the top fastener to the photo.
A little stamped detail (Stamp Doodles #5) and Splatters # 4 add that extra splash of black.
You can rewatch the Live process on Bramble Fox Friends to see how it all came together.
