Autumn Glory (even in the South!)

We may not have bright orange and red leaves but there's a quiet and stillness that arrives with the cooler days of autumn here in Georgia.

I knew when I saw this gorgeous title in the October Fox Box that I'd take a photo at the neighborhood lake that's always on my walking route. It's not the vibrantly colored autumn scene that's in the mood board for the October Challenge but it's glorious in its own right and it picks up on the watery reflection of one of the photos! I chose the slightly grungy b-side of a paper from the Spectrum Sherbet collection by 49 and Market because it has lots of the subtle colors that are in the photos.

And while the color palette in the mood board didn't include teal, I felt that the matte gold of the title and the colors of the other elements would pop against a subtle, outdoorsy teal. And there's also a perfect little owl whom I'll introduce later....

I placed the title across the photo background page, also from Spectrum Sherbet, and touching the journaling block that I filled in later with some personal thoughts about how special this place was for my late hubby and me this time of year. That journal block and the fussycut elements are from the Simple Stories collection "Simple Vintage Lakeside" -- perfect for the photos AND for the outdoorsy elements in this month's Fox Box.

The Carrie Simonds sketch I used had a stitched offset square so before I got started with my page I used the (very handy for non-sewers like me!) washi tape stitches from Spectrum Sherbet.

The open area on the right photo was perfect for a fussycut sign post, mushroom and pumpkin, adding in some of the colors found on the oxidized metal platform the ducks are sunning on.

Then it was time for some fun layering leaves from the collection, the Autumn Leaves paper Snips #013 and one of the gorgeous leaves from the Fox Box. I wanted the green leaves underneath because most of our trees are still green, but the brown, tan and maroon are all colors that occur in the scene. And the deer Perspextive is also perfect here because the woods are filled with them and they often visit the area around the lake -- AND my veggie garden as well!

In my upper left corner I created a cluster with torn scraps and leaves from the collection sitting under a "Hello Autumn" disk from last October's Fox Box -- and then I layered on more leaves from the Fox Box and another Paper Snip leaf for variety and interest. My favorite part of the whole page is the little teal owl sitting on the branch that I layered atop the disk. That little owl seems to "explain" the teal on the rest of the page.

I just had to add this photo of the pretty autumn leaf paper snips and adorable woodland creatures and beautiful matte green title that are LEFT from my Fox Box Plus after this page! I can't wait to use them to showcase more of my seasonal photos!
